Gali Janardhan Reddy seeks relief from conviction in Obulapuram Mining Case

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court reserved orders on interim applications filed by petitioners seeking bail in the Obulapuram Mining Case (OMC). Justice Kunuru Lakshman has agreed to hear the application filed by Gali Janardhan Reddy, seeking suspension of the conviction order very soon.

On Monday, the High Court single bench admitted criminal appeals filed by Gali Janardhan Reddy and others who are accused in the OMC.

All the accused in the OMC case, including Janardhan Reddy, BV Srinivasa Reddy, VD Rajagopal, IAS (Retd), K Mehafus Ali Khan, have filed interim applications in the main writ appeals, seeking bail by suspending the CBI Court, Hyderabad order, dated May 5.

The senior counsel appearing for Gali Janardhan Reddy informed the court about the CBI Court, Hyderabad, order convicting Gali Janardhan Reddy and other accused in the OMC case to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

The petitioner requested Justice Lakshman to hear the interim application filed, seeking suspension of the conviction order at an early date on the ground that the Election Commission of India will issue a notification for holding an election to the Assembly Constituency held by Gali Janardhan Reddy.

The Karnataka Assembly, by way of a notification dated May 8, has withdrawn the membership of Gali Janardhan Reddy as MLA of the Karnataka Assembly.

It is pertinent here to mention that all the accused in the Obulapuram Mining Case moved the vacation courts in the month of May, seeking similar reliefs cited. However, the vacation courts declined to hear the criminal appeals, stating that there was no urgency to hear the appeals.

The court adjourned the appeals for further adjudication until August.
