Gouravelli reservoir row: Telangana HC directs police not to stop farmers from visiting fields
A Lunch Motion Writ petition was filed
By Newsmeter Network Published on 11 March 2023 2:14 AM GMTTelangana: Telangana High Court has directed the Siddipet police commissioner not to restrain villagers of Gudatipalli from farming in their fields.
Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy directed the Commissioner of Police, Siddipet, ACP Husnabad, and Inspector of Police, Husnabad circle, not to create hurdles, nor restrain the petitioners from going to their agricultural fields for work in Gudatipally village.
The Judge was hearing a Lunch Motion Writ Petition filed by Boini Bhaskar and three others from Gudatipally village. The petitioners were aggrieved by the high-handedness of Siddipet Police which had deployed huge manpower to allow contractors and irrigation department officials to complete the construction work of the bund portion of the Gouravelli project.
Ch. Ravi Kumar, counsel for the petitioners, informed the Court that the Irrigation department officials and the contractors are going ahead with the construction work of the Gouravelli reservoir, without obtaining requisite statutory permissions from the concerned authorities. He said it is a sheer violation of earlier orders of the Court, which restrained the BRS government from going ahead with the construction of the reservoir as the compensation and R&R package to the farmers, who lost their lands have not been paid.
The counsel told the Court that the police have closed the road from Husnabad to Ramavaram and they are not allowed to go and work in their fields to eke out their livelihood. The court adjourned the Writ Petition to March 31. The court asked the State to file its counter affidavit.
