Hyderabad: The Telangana government has finally adhered to the pleas of scores of Group-1 aspirants who have been requesting a relaxation in height requirement. On Saturday, the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) issued a notification relaxing the height requirement for two of the uniform posts under Group-1 ā deputy superintendent of police Category-II and assistant Excise superintendent.
As per the notification, the minimum height requirement for men from the general category has been reduced from 167.6 cms to 165 cms, for ST candidates it has been reduced to 164 cms, and for women, it has been reduced from 152.5 cms to 150 cms.
The UPSC prescribes a requirement of only 165 cm and more than 20 states in India follow the UPSC height criteria. Earlier, some of the aspirants had said that Telangana's height requirement for posts like DySP was illogical. They said that constable and SI are field-level posts whereas DySP is an office cadre post. The field-level constable might require a height of 167.6 cm but it was illogical to ask the same for a DySP officer.
Further age relaxation
Saturday's notification also informed that the maximum age limit is raised by a further two years in addition to the raise of three years as notified earlier on 13 April. An age limit relaxation of total of five years is made for three of the posts ā deputy superintendent of police (Category- II), deputy superintendent of jails (men), and assistant Excise superintendent. For all the three posts, the maximum age limit has been increased from 31 to 33 years.
The Group-1 notification was issued in Telangana for the first time since the formation of the state. Applications have been invited to fill up 503 vacancies of Group-1 posts. There are 18 different types of Group-1 posts available.
