Jubilee Hills bypoll: EC to issue notification on Oct 13; expenditure observer appointed

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will issue the official Gazette Notification for the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency by-election on October 13, formally setting the election process in motion.

Nominations will be accepted from October 13 to 21, with scrutiny scheduled on October 22. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 24. Polling is set for November 11, and counting of votes will be conducted on November 14.

Election preparations under review

District Election Officer RV Karnan inspected arrangements at the Returning Officer’s office at Sheikhpet Tahsildar’s Office here.

He reviewed the preparedness of officials and directed Returning Officer P Sairam to ensure all arrangements comply with ECI guidelines for a smooth nomination process.

The Jubilee Hills constituency has a total of 3,98,982 voters, comprising 2,07,367 male and 1,91,590 female electors.

Expenditure observer appointed

The ECI has appointed Sanjiv Kumar Lal, IRS (2014 batch), as the Expenditure Observer for the by-election. He will oversee election spending to ensure transparency and compliance with EC rules.

Candidates have an official expenditure cap of Rs 40 lakh each, with the Jubilee Hills bypoll expected to be among the costliest in Telangana.

Candidates in the fray

The Congress has fielded V Naveen Yadav, while the BRS has nominated Maganti Sunitha, wife of late MLA Maganti Gopinath, whose demise triggered the by-election. The BJP is expected to announce its candidate later on Sunday.
