Kaleshwaram land acquisition: TS HC disposes of writ petitions

Telangana: Telangana high court disposed of a batch of writ petitions of farmers whose land was acquired by the government for the Kaleshwaram project in Nalgonda and Siddipet districts. After hearing the arguments, the division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Surepalli Nanda disposed of the petitions.

Farmers had filed the petition after the Telangana government acquired their land for constructing the approach canals and other distributary channels for Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The petitioners were aggrieved by the inordinate delay in awarding the compensation. Farmers said their lands were acquired in 2017.

A. Sanjeev Kumar, Special Government Pleader informed the court that except for a few petitioners, most of the land owners and agriculturists have been awarded compensation under proper acknowledgment. However, they later approached the court pleading that the amount was not sufficient. After taking note of the contentions put forth by Sanjeev Kumar, the court disposed of writ petitions.

The court was hearing a batch of the writ petitions filed by Mamidi Ramulu and others including residents of Chityala Mandal, Veliminedu Nalgonda, and Siddipet. They were seeking a stay on the land acquisition proceedings and more compensation.
