Hyderabad: Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences (CAIMS) at Bommakal in Karimnagar district has been closed after 46 students and some staff members tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.

According to reports, the Medical College had celebrated its annual day function on November 27. College authorities suspect that one or two students, who were infected with Covid 19, might have spread the infection during the convocation ceremony.

Of the total 46 Covid-19 cases, 18 were detected on Saturday and the remaining on Sunday. Some of the students tested positive for Covid-19 even though they are not having symptoms. A special medical camp would be held at the college on Monday to test all students and staff. Students who will be found positive would be shifted to isolation centers.

The college management has declared holidays and expedited COVID19 testing of students and staff. The entire premises of the medical college including the hostel complex and 1,000bedded teaching hospital have been sanitized as a precautionary measure.
