KCRs tryst with Nizamabad: 6 SFI leaders denied meeting, arrested

Hyderabad: Police have arrested six leaders of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and some leaders of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) after they tried to meet Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Nizamabad.

The incident occurred on Monday when KCR visited Nizamabad to inaugurate the District Integrated Offices' Complex.

The party leaders were trying to meet KCR and give him a representation of some of the prevailing issues in the education sector. "We wanted to raise issues regarding the pending fee reimbursement and scholarships and insufficient funds to improve the infrastructure of Telangana University in Nizamabad. We just wanted to meet the CM and give a representation," said T Nagaraju, Telangana SFI Secretary.

Nagaraju also said that when the leaders were going to peacefully meet the CM, they were brutally beaten by the police. SFI Telangana condemned the police lathi charge and the arrest of the student leaders.

A case has also been registered against the arrested leaders.

PDSU State President Secretary LS Nageswara Rao and Boin Pally Ramu said eight years have passed since KCR came to power, but he has never reviewed or tried to solve the problems.

"To date, the pending scholarship reimbursement is about Rs 3800 crore. Mess charges are not being increased, the midday meal is not being provided to the inter students, and the vacancies of junior and degree college lecturer posts are not being filled. Due to non-allocation of funds to universities, today they remain only PG colleges," they said.
