Legislative Council election: Polling for six seats ends in Telangana; results awaited

Hyderabad: Polling for the biennial election to six seats of the Telangana Legislative Council from Local Authorities Constituencies (LAC) ended peacefully on Friday.

The polling was held to fill two vacancies in the Legislative Council from Karimnagar district and one each from Adilabad, Nalgonda, Medak, and Khammam districts.

In all, 26 candidates are in the fray for the six MLC seats. The voting was by and large peaceful. The election authorities are yet to announce the poll percentage. The counting of votes will be taken up on 14 December and the results will be declared the same day.

The highest 99.8 percent votes were polled in Karimnagar Local Authorities' Constituencies followed by Medak Local Authorities (99.22%), Nalgonda Local Authorities – (97.01%), Khammam Local Authorities ( 96.09%) and Adilabad Local Authorities( 91.78%), State Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Shashank Goel said.

A total of 5,326 people exercised their voting right in 37 polling stations set up in the respective constituencies. The polling process was conducted in compliance with the COVID-19 norms. Elaborate security arrangements had been made at the polling stations to prevent any untoward incidents.

TRS recently won six MLC seats. The poll was held for the remaining six on Friday.
