By Newsmeter Network Published on 18 Dec 2022 7:54 AM GMTHyderabad: A leopard that had strayed into the Hetero Drugs Limited's premises in Kazipally Industrial Estate, Sangareddy district, was captured successfully.
On the intervening night of 16 and 17 December, the employees of Hetero Drugs noticed a leopard moving in one of their manufacturing plants. Immediately the staff captured a video of the animal and informed the district forest officer, Sangareddy.
The DFO, Sridhar Rao, along with the forest range officer concerned and other field staff reached the premises of Hetero Drugs and reviewed the situation with the plant officials.
The leopard was in a large plant, 100 feet in length, and was moving among the machinery and other equipment. The DFO immediately contacted the forest officials of the head office and requested for help and permission to capture the leopard.

A team headed by Dr. Naveen, deputy director, veterinary (retd.), and Dr. Hakeem, deputy director, veterinary, NZP, Hyderabad, took up the capture operation. After several attempts to trap the leopard in a cage, the rescue team finally got an opportunity to dart the leopard.
The leopard was successfully tranquilized and shifted to a transport cage and taken to NZP, Hyderabad for recovery and medical checkup. The animal was found to be a male leopard, 4ā5 years of age.
After medical examination and certification by the deputy director, NZP, the leopard will be translocated to Amrabad Tiger Reserve and released in the Mannanur range where a suitable habitat for the leopard has been identified.
