Telangana teaching and non-teaching staff call for statewide stir over low salaries, no health security
Hyderabad: The Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF) has announced a phased state-wide protest against the State government’s ‘lackadaisical attitude’ toward the long-pending issues of teaching and non-teaching staff working in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV), Urban Residential Schools (URS) and Samagra Shiksha departments.
Promises by govt unmet
Despite serving for nearly two decades, these employees continue to receive meagre salaries.
TSUTF State President Chava Ravi and General Secretary A Venkati stated that the government has failed to implement service conditions promised during previous strikes, including specific assurances made by the Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka during a 29-day strike last year.
What are the demands of the Federation?
The TSUTF has put forward the following critical demands for the welfare of the staff:
1. Pay Parity: Pay minimum basic wages by designating SOs as Principals, PGCRTs as Junior Lecturers (JLs), and CRTs/PETs/CRPPs as School Assistants (SAs).
2. Health Security: Immediate issuance of Health Cards for all employees.
3. Workload Relief: Recruitment of dedicated caretakers to exempt teaching staff from night watchman/guard duties.
4. Budgetary Provisions: Proposals must be sent to the Project Approval Board (PAB) to secure adequate funds for minimum wages in the upcoming budget.
The 3-Phase action plan
The federation has outlined a clear timeline for their demonstrations if the government does not respond:
March 9: protest demonstration at schools wearing black badges during lunch hour
March 16: protest rallies at divisional and district headquarters
March 20: Chalo Assembly, as it will coincide with the start of the Assembly Budget session
“The government is acting with a sense of vengeance against those who protest. We demand that the State government recognise their labour and provide appropriate wages immediately,” the leaders stated in their press release.
