MLC election: KCR announces 3 BRS candidates under MLA quota

While Naveen Kumar was fielded for another term as MLC, the other two are new candidates.

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has announced Deshapati Srinivas, K. Naveen Kumar, and Challa Venkatrami Reddy as the candidates under MLA quota to the state Legislative Council. KCR made the announcement on Tuesday.

While the ruling party has fielded Naveen Kumar for another term as MLC, the other two are new candidates.

Naveen Kumar was first elected to the Legislative Council on 7 June 2019 through a by-election for a casual vacancy after the resignation of Mynampalli Hanumanth Rao.

Deshapathi Srinivas is currently serving as an officer on special duty in the Chief Minister’s Office. He actively participated in the separate Telangana movement with KCR.

Challa Venkatarami Reddy, the grandson of former President of India Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, is a former MLA from the Alampur constituency.

CM KCR asked the candidates to file their nominations on 9 March. Further, he asked legislative affairs minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy and BRS general secretary Palla Rajeshwar Reddy to make the arrangements for the filing of the nominations. The names of two MLC candidates under the Governor quota will be announced after the Cabinet meeting, scheduled to be held at Pragathi Bhavan on 9 March.

As per the schedule given by the Election Commission, candidates can file their nominations till 13 March. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on 14 March. The deadline for withdrawal of candidatures is 16 March. Biennial elections to the three MLC seats are scheduled to be held on 23 March.
