Rescuer Imtiaz’s heartbreaking final phone call from cellar in Nampally fire in Hyderabad goes viral

Hyderabad: A devastating fire at a furniture showroom in Nampally has left the city in shock, with the final phone call of one of the victims emerging as a heartbreaking reminder of the tragedy.

The audio went viral on social media on Friday.

Trapped in a deadly inferno

The massive blaze broke out around 1 pm on January 24 in the cellar of Bachas Furniture, located along the busy Nampally main road. The fire rapidly spread through the four-storey building, filling the premises with thick smoke and intense flames.

While several occupants managed to escape in time, two young brothers, Praneeth (10) and Akhil (7), sons of night watchman Yadaiah, remained trapped in the cellar.

Rescuers die in attempt to save trapped children

Hearing the children’s cries, three people rushed into the smoke-filled cellar in a desperate rescue attempt: salesman Mohammed Imtiaz, auto driver Syed Habeeb and a woman named Baby. Within minutes, the fire intensified, cutting off all exit routes and engulfing the cellar in dense smoke.

All five, two children and three rescuers, were killed in the inferno.

Last call that moved the city

In a chilling development, the last phone call made by Imtiaz moments before his death has surfaced and gone viral.

Speaking to relatives, his voice trembled with fear as he pleaded for help, saying the exits were blocked, visibility was near zero and children were trapped inside with him.

The call abruptly ended, as the fire consumed the cellar. Imtiaz’s mobile phone was later found burnt in the debris, with his final moments tragically recorded.

A cellar that became a death trap

Preliminary findings indicate that the cellar, packed with furniture and lacking proper fire safety measures, turned into a deadly enclosure once the fire broke out. Poor ventilation and blocked exits severely hampered escape efforts.

Grief and questions remain

The emotional audio has deeply disturbed residents and renewed concerns over fire safety compliance in commercial buildings, especially those using cellars for storage or workspaces.

As families mourn the loss of five lives, calls are growing louder for accountability and stricter enforcement of safety norms to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
