Nethana Beema: TS scheme to give Rs. 5L compensation to families of deceased weavers

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is introducing the "Nethana Beema" scheme to provide financial support to the bereaved families of handloom and power loom weavers. This scheme will be launched on National Handloom Day on 7 August 2022.

"The Telangana government is implementing various welfare schemes to uplift the weavers' community in the state," said MAUD minister KTR.

Under the scheme, the family of the deceased weaver will receive an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs. The amount will be credited into the bank account of the family member within 10 days after the death of the weaver.

The Telangana department of handlooms and textiles will be the nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme.

KTR said that the Telangana government has entered into an agreement with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for this scheme. He added that the government will pay the premium amount to LIC and the weavers need not pay a penny.

The government has allocated Rs. 50 crores for this scheme and out of this, Rs. 25 crores have already been released. Weavers below the age of 60 years are eligible for the scheme. About 80,000 handloom and power loom weavers are beneficiaries.

State and district-level committees will be formed soon for the implementation of the Nethana Beema scheme.

KTR said the Telangana government is allocating a special budget (from BC Welfare) of Rs. 1,200 crores from 2016-17 every year to strengthen the handloom and power loom sectors. This is in addition to the regular budget allocated to the department of handlooms and textiles.

He also said the state has allocated Rs. 55.12 crores as regular budget for the department of handlooms and textiles for the financial year 2022-23. Another Rs. 400 crores were allocated for the welfare of the weaker sections.

KTR said under the direction of Chief Minister KCR, the Telangana government is implementing schemes such as Input Subsidy Linked Wage Compensation Scheme, Thrift Fund to Handloom/Powerloom Weavers, and many others for the welfare of the weavers' community.
