CM Revanth announces new healthcare policy for Telangana, welfare push for transgenders, senior citizens

Hyderabad: A comprehensive new healthcare policy will be presented in the upcoming 2026-2027 budget, said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

The announcement was made at Praja Bhavan on Monday during an event where the chief minister oversaw the free distribution of advanced equipment for persons with disabilities (PwDs).

The initiative will be backed by a Rs 50 crore allocation providing beneficiaries with retrofitted motorised vehicles, battery-operated tricycles, wheelchairs, laptops and hearing aids.

Representation of transgender community

As part of the announcements, CM Reddy also declared that the state will now nominate members of the transgender community as co-option members in all Municipal Corporations starting from the next elections.

“One co-option member post will be reserved for transgender individuals in every municipal corporation,” the CM stated. “This facility will empower the community to raise their specific issues directly within the government framework."

Govt employees neglecting parents will be fined

Addressing the neglect of the elderly, the Chief Minister revealed plans for a stringent new law. Under this legislation, if a government employee is found to be neglecting their elderly parents, 10 per cent of their monthly salary will be deducted and transferred directly to the parents’ bank accounts.

To further support the elderly, the government is establishing ‘Pranaam’ Day Care Centres, designed specifically to provide a safe and engaging environment for senior citizens.

Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the government views welfare through a humanitarian lens. Key highlights for the PwD community included:

Marriage Incentives: A grant of Rs 2 lakh for newlywed persons with disabilities.

Employment and Education: Strict implementation of special quotas to ensure competitive parity.

Recognition of Excellence: The CM cited the recent appointment of a Paralympic medallist to a government job as a testament to the state’s commitment.

Invoking the legacy of former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy, the CM urged the community to lead with self-confidence, noting that physical challenges did not stop Reddy from becoming a ‘Best Parliamentarian.’

‘Telangana Caste Census is a model for social justice’

CM Reddy also touched upon the broader vision of social equity, highlighting Telangana’s Caste Census as a national benchmark.

“Our census has become a role model. Following pressure from Telangana, the Union Government has finally agreed to include a caste census as part of the national census,” he said.

CM Revanth contrasted the current administration with the previous BRS regime, emphasising that the doors of Praja Bhavan are now open to all. The government is committed to solving grievances instantly and transforming Telangana into a premier welfare state.
