Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Saturday issued an order prohibiting rallies and public meetings in the state till 2 January 2022. Other events involving congregations of people will be permitted subject to certain norms like maintaining physical distancing at the venue, ensuring that no person without mask is allowed, and IR thermometers/thermal scanners are arranged at the entry point to scan persons entering the venue.
In view of the Omicron Variant of Concern (VOC) being detected in different parts of the country, certain measures have been suggested by the Union ministry of health and family welfare. The Telangana High Court has issued orders to the state government to take appropriate decision in respect to public gatherings keeping in view the new variant.
Somesh Kumar, the state chief secretary, said that after careful consideration of the present situation, particularly in light of the emergence of Omicron VoC, directions have been issued that will be strictly enforced with immediate effect.
The orders imposing a fine for not wearing masks in public spaces will continue to be in effect.
