Omicron fears: TS schools, colleges to stay shut from Jan 8 to 16

Hyderabad: Amid concerns over Omicron, the Telangana government has decided to close all educational institutions from January 8 to 16.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to review the pandemic situation.


Earlier, on January 1, the government of Telangana had prohibited rallies, public gatherings, and mass gatherings of all types, including religious, political, and cultural, till 10 January.

It was also decided to strictly implement the order imposing a fine of Rs.1,000 on people who do wear masks in public places. The government also asked schools and educational institutions to ensure that all staff and students wear masks and follow COVID-appropriate behavior.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Telangana reported no new cases of Omicron. The total tally of Omicron cases in the state stands at 84. 482 people tested positive, 212 recovered and 1 died due to Covid-19 in the state on Monday.
