Palakonda: DCA raids quack-run 'New Life Care Clinic', unearths unauthorized stocks of drugs

Mahbubnagar: Drugs Control Administration (DCA), raided the āNew Life Care Clinicā at Palakonda Village in Mahbubnagar and recovered a huge quantity of unauthorizedly stocked medicines.
DCA officials seized 36 types of medicines including antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer drugs, analgesics, etc. worth Rs 95,000.
Acting on a tip-off, DCA officials of Mahbubnagar Zone, raided the āNew Life Care Clinicā run by S Murahari, who practices medicine without qualification.

During the raid, DCA officials discovered huge stocks of medicines. He was not having any drug licence for the business. Thirty-six types of medicines including antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer drugs, analgesics, etc. were found at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock worth Rs 95,000 during the raid.
DCA officials detected āantibiotics and āsteroid injectionsā at the clinic during the raid. Indiscriminate sale of such drugs, particularly antibiotics, by an unqualified person may have disastrous consequences on the health of the public in rural areas, including the emergence of āAntimicrobial Resistance.'
Stocking drugs without a drug license is a punishable offence
B Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Director, Mahbubnagar; DCA SK. Rabiya, Drugs Inspector, Mahbubnagar; and Mohd. Rafhi Shaik, Drugs Inspector, Jadcherla were among the officers who carried out the raid.
DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation is underway and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
DCA Telangana has been constantly on the vigil to detect unlicensed stocks and the sale of medicines by quacks.
Storing drugs for sale without a drug licence is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act with imprisonment of up to five years.
Surprise checks have been intensified to bust quaks. Stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators, officials said.
