Hyderabad: Telangana government assured the High Court that the state will share the progress report of the investigation into the phone tapping case on the next hearing date.

Additional AG Imran Khan informed the division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar that the state government has filed a detailed counter affidavit on the phone tapping Issue. He sought 4 weeks to share the progress of the investigation.

Telangana High Court was adjudicating the Suo Motu case. The court converted the news item into public interest litigation.

On June 6, the court issued notices to the Union Home Secretary; Chief Secretary; Director General of Police Telangana (TG); Principal Secretary to the Government Home Department, TG; Addl. DGP Intelligence, TG; and the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad city.

The news item revealed that the mobile phone of Justice Sarath, Judge of the Telangana High Court was also illegally tapped during the illegal phone tapping operation conducted during the BRS rule.

The team of police officials, who were entrusted with the task of tapping the phones of prominent politicians, judges, and other officials include Mekala Tirupathanna, D.Praneeth Rao (SIB DSP), former DCP G.Radha Krishan Rao. All worked under the supervision of former SIB Chief T. Prabhakar Rao.

The matter has been adjourned to July 23.
