Pollution-control standards violation: Four industrial units asked to shut down in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has ordered the closure of four industrial units for violating environmental norms and safety protocols.

The crackdown affects a quartz mine, a surface treatment plant, a metal industry, and an environmental firm, all of which were found to be flouting pollution rules and failing to meet critical compliance standards.

Key Units Issued Closure Orders in November 2025

The four units that received formal directives from the TGPCB's Head Office and Zonal Office (RC Puram) to cease operations are:

1) Sri Vengamamba Mining Company

2) Tew Automation Pvt Ltd - surface treatment and metal industry

3) Sahastra Enviro Pvt Ltd provides environmental services.

4) Ashirwad Metal Industries

Reasons for the Closures

The primary reason for the extensive action taken by the TGPCB is the industries' failure to maintain compliance with pollution-control standards, proper waste-management practices, and the conditions of their environmental consent.

The industries were directed to shut down because they were either operating without valid permissions or had failed to rectify earlier non-compliance notices. The enforcement drives are specifically targeting high-risk sectors and units located near residential zones and water bodies.

Major Violations by TEW Automation

The investigation into TEW Automation revealed several egregious violations of both the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act:

Expired Consent

The company was operating without a valid Consent for Operation (CFO) and Hazardous Waste Authorisation, which had expired in January 2025.

Air Pollution:

The unit was found to be releasing “large amounts of acid fumes” into the atmosphere, lacking a required scrubbing system for its pickling and chrome-plating processes.

Water Pollution:

The industry illegally discharged effluents into an external drain, violating its consent order, which mandated proper disposal through an authorized facility.

The closure order included a directive to the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) to disconnect the power supply to the unit immediately. The Board has warned that continued operations after receipt of the directive could lead to prosecution and severe penalties, including imprisonment.
