Ranga Reddy: Truck rams into TGSRTC bus in Chevella mandal; 19 killed

Hyderabad: Nineteen passengers including a 10-month-old baby were killed when a truck traveling on the wrong side rammed into a TGSRTC bus near Mirjaguda on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway in Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning.

The deceased included the drivers of the RTC bus and the lorry. A newly born along with the mother died.

Where and how did the dreadful collision take place?

Time of incident : About 6:15 am today at Indirareddy nagar, near Chevella. Bus is travelling from Tandur to Hyderabad.

While proceeding from Tandur to Hyderabad, the bus was hit head-on by a Tipper bearing No. TG 06 T 3879 coming from the opposite direction at high speed.

In the impact, both drivers (bus and tipper) and around 17 passengers died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.

As per eyewitness accounts and police confirmation, the tipper was travelling at high speed, overtaking several vehicles, and suddenly steered to the right, colliding head-on with the RTC bus coming from the opposite direction.

The tipper being heavy with gravel load caused heavy damage and casualties.

The bus had many students studying at various colleges in Hyderabad. As Sunday was a holiday, they were returning to the city when the mishap took place.

The crash led to a massive traffic jam on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway, with a long line of vehicles stranded along the Chevella–Vikarabad route.

Police teams have deployed 3 JCBs to safely bring out the passengers who got stuck. Many of the passengers have got stuck in the gravel carried in the lorry.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar ordered immediate relief measures and instructed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the road accident that occurred in Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district. CM directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and take up all necessary relief and rescue measures. The Chief Minister also instructed them to keep him informed of the situation and provide updates on the details of the accident from time to time.

CM also instructed the Ministers available nearby to rush to the accident site without delay. He directed the District Collector to intensify the rescue and relief operations and to take all necessary measures to ensure effective assistance.
