Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has written to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao regarding the sanction and release of Aasara pensions.
"We welcome the TRS government's action of revamping the pension schemes for the aged, widows, and disabled and raising the quantum of assistance and relaxation of age under these pensions," Mr. Owaisi wrote in his letter.
He pointed out that there are several issues with the sanction of new pensions. "Firstly, the pensions are not released in time and sometimes it is pending for 2 to 3 months. Secondly, there is a delay in issuing pension cards to those in the 57 years plus age group who are found eligible for old age pensions," he said.
Mr. Owaisi requested KCR to instruct the officials concerned to release Aasara pensions that have been pending for the last two months and also arrange to release the new identity cards to all eligible pensioners who have completed 57 years of age.
Pending honorarium of imams, mouzams
The AIMIM chief also wrote another letter regarding the sanction and release of honorarium to imams and mouzams in Telangana.
The state government had sanctioned an honorarium of Rs. 5,000 per month to about 10,000 imams and mouzams of mosques in Telangana though the Telangana State Wakf Board.
"At present, the honorarium of imams and mouzams in Telangana state is due for the last five months, even though the government sanctioned Budget and released funds in July 2022 for the payment of honorarium and the Wakf Board prepared cheques and uploaded the same online for clearance by the finance department," Mr. Owaisi wrote in his letter.
He said the finance department is delaying the clearance of the cheques due to which imams and muezzins are facing a lot of hardships as they are completely dependent on the financial assistance of the government.
Mr. Owaisi requested KCR to instruct the finance department to clear all payments due to imams and mouzams of the state.
