Rewrite constitution to fulfill peoples expectations: KCR opens Pandora box

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said that India needs to rewrite its Constitution to fulfill people's expectations and ensure that the country progresses to its full potential.

Alleging that both the Congress and the BJP have miserably failed in addressing the basic needs of people in the last 75 years, he called for a qualitative change in the country and declared that he would contribute in whatever manner possible to bring the change.

BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar took strong objection to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's statement. He said the Constitution has the spirit of Dr. BR Ambedkar, which cannot be erased even by the ancestors of the Chief Minister.

"The CM's statement revealed his cruel intention to introduce his own Constitution," said Sanjay.

He appealed to people from the weaker sections to take note of such arrogant outbursts, which insulted the Constitution and those who drafted it.

At a marathon news conference here, the Chief Minister announced that a meeting of retired IAS, IPS, and IFS officers will be held in Hyderabad soon to discuss the new agenda for the country.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief said he would visit Mumbai in a couple of days to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss his plans. He also hinted at meetings with several other leaders including his West Bengal and Odisha counterparts, Mamata Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik, respectively.

KCR called for uprooting the BJP government at the Centre and "throwing it into the Bay of Bengal". "Unless it is done, this country can't progress," he said slamming the BJP for dividing people in the name of religion.

TRS chief called on people, especially youth, to wake up to make their future bright.

"Shortly, we will start working for the country. We will tell the country how the change can be brought. It is time for the country to react and liberate itself from senseless parties and leaders.

"We need to draft a new Constitution of India. Many nations, whenever they felt the need, have rewritten their constitutions. We also need to pursue a new Constitution as 75 valuable years have gone," he said, calling for a thorough debate on the proposal.

KCR pointed out that the Constitution has given certain powers to states, certain powers to the government of India while there are some subjects in the concurrent list, "but the Congress and BJP governments have stolen powers of the states". He said their policy is unitary which is not good and desirable for Indian democracy.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay said that KCR was using the Telangana sentiment to save himself from prison because of the corruption. "Can you show one corruption allegation against the Central government under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi? Have you forgotten how you had indulged in corruption in the ESI scam along with Velugubanti Satyanarayana," he asked.

Rubbishing the CM's claims that farmers in the States were turning millionaires, he questioned why Telangana ranks fourth in farmers' suicides. He also questioned why teachers were dying by suicide if GO 317 was so beneficial to them.

He also condemned the CM's statement about health allocation in Union Budget for the health sector. "Did you give PPE Kits, oxygen cylinders, or vaccines to people? Why did so many people die in Telangana during the second wave, at a time when you were promoting corporate hospitals?" he asked.

Criticizing the CM for dragging the Chief Justice of India into unnecessary controversy, he said the language being used by Rao had put Telangana society to shame.
