Hyderabad: Nip is in the air. Winter has staged a comeback in Telangana. Weatherman has hinted about colder nights in the state for the next one week.

T Balaji, popular as Telangana Weatherman said a strong cold spell is expected from January 6 to 10. "During Jan 6-10, there will be a drop in the temperature. Mainly North and West Telangana will witness upto 7-9 degrees Celsius and other parts will witness 10-15 degrees Celsius," said T Balaji.

He said that Hyderabad would witness temperatures between 10-15 degrees Celsius.

According to the map that Balaji shared, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nirmal, Adilabad, Mancherial, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad are going to experience severe cold spell with temperatures ranging between 7-9 degrees Celsius.




"So far, it has been very warm nights and almost dead winters. The reason for the return of the colder nights is mainly because of the arrival of northerly winds from January 6. When moist easterlies (winds coming from the Bay of Bengal) are replaced by the dry and cold northerlies (winds coming from north India), then the temperatures drop," said Balaji.

Sravani, Scientist C at IMD Hyderabad said that there is likely to be a 2-3 degrees drop in night temperatures across Telangana.

"The western disturbances are the reason for the upcoming colder nights in Telangana. coldwave is ongoing in North India already. In the coming days, colder winds coming from North India will hit Telangana and this would cause the temperatures to fall," said Sravani.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Tallapally in Rangareddy recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature of 13.8 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.

In Hyderabad, the lowest minimum temperature of 17.5 degree Celsius. was recorded in Langer House Haridaspur Community Hall in Golconda.

TSDPS forecast says that more districts in the state are expected to witness lower temperatures on the night of 6 January.




Dense Fog

Meanwhile, dense to very dense fog continues in North India. Parts of Telangana and Hyderabad are also experiencing dense to very dense fog. According to reports, 50 percent of India is covered with dense fog. On Thursday morning, North and Central parts of Telangana and the outskirts of Hyderabad city were under dense fog conditions, according to independent weather observers in the state.
