Hyderabad: Telangana Excise Department's revenue has jumped seven percent to ₹40,209 crore in the financial year 2025-26.
This is the highest-ever revenue earned by the state since its formation. The record revenue was fueled by consistent liquor sales and licensing fees.
The revenue for 2025-26 represents an increase of ₹2,722 crore over the previous fiscal year (2024-25), which generated ₹37,487 crore. Overall excise receipts saw a growth of approximately 7% year-on-year.
What was sold?
In the 2025-26 period, the state recorded sales of 382.91 lakh cases of liquor and 387.34 lakh cases of beer. Liquor consumption saw a 2% volume increase. However, beer sales dropped 9% in FY26. For context, the 2024-25 period had recorded 372.25 lakh cases of liquor and 536.13 lakh cases of beer.
Revenue Breakdown
The state’s excise revenue is derived from multiple regulated streams:
Retail Outlets: The 2,620 A-4 liquor shops contributed ₹1,771 crore through annual rental fees.
Bars: Revenue from 1,214 licensed bars amounted to ₹549 crore.
Licensing: The department generated an additional ₹2,869 crore from 95,628 liquor shop license applications.
