Hyderabad: Self-imposed lockdown has been announced in the Gudem village of Mustabad Mandal in the Rajanna-Sircilla district of Telangana. This follows the detection of the Omicron case in the area.

A man who returned recently from Dubai tested positive for the Omicron variant. He was living with his family in Gudem village.

The man has been shifted to Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Gachibowli, the government-designated facility for treating Omicron cases.

Health officials said that the man's wife, and mother, had also tested positive for Covid-19. Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.

Around 64 samples were collected by paramedics. These include samples from his family members. Gram Panchayat has decided that the village would be locked down for ten days.

Dubai returnee is the second Omicron case found outside the GHMC area. Earlier, a woman, who returned from the United Kingdom, was tested positive. She was putting up at Hanamkonda.

On December 22, Telangana reported 14 new cases of Omicron, taking the tally to 38. Of the 14 new cases, 2 are from 'at-risk' countries and 12 are from non-risk nations.
