Hyderabad: On Friday, the Telangana High Court gave four weeks to the state government to declare the date by which it will appoint the chairman and members to the Telangana Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Shravan Kumar, expressed deep concern when the special government pleader (SPL) appearing for the state sought 10 weeks to update the court on the timeline for the appointments.
The issue came up in court earlier too. On February 28 this year, the Chief Justice Court issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary, Scheduled Castes Development (POA.A1), Department and the secretary, Telangana State Commission for SCs and STs, directing the state to complete the appointment process. However, the state has been seeking time to finalise the procedure.
The division bench was adjudicating a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by S Ganesh Rao, a social activist and J Shankar, an unemployed youth from Karimnagar District, seeking a direction to the Telangana State government to appoint the chairman and members to the SC/ST commission.
The next hearing in the case was posted for September 27.
