Hyderabad: The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has received over 28 lakh new ration card applications so far this year, reflecting the continued demand for food security coverage among households across the State.

Over 3.6 lakh cards approved

According to data furnished under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to applicant Kareem Ansari Yugantar, 3,69,095 ration cards have been approved, while 16,391 applications were rejected during the same period. The department has provided detailed district-wise data on approvals and rejections.

Nearly 20 lakh applications under Praja Palana

The RTI reply also revealed that between January and July this year, a total of 19,57,105 ration card applications were received through the Praja Palana programme. Additionally, 8,70,159 applications were submitted via Mee Seva centres, highlighting the multiple channels being used by citizens to access welfare schemes. The total number of applications amounted to 28,27,264 so far.


Official memo shared for transparency

As part of its response, the department has furnished Memo No.1784/CS.I-CCS/2024 dated January 11, issued by the Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies Department, to ensure transparency in processing and policy implementation under the RTI Act.


Ensuring fair access to Food Security

Officials stated that the data reflects the scale of ration card processing operations in Telangana and the government’s commitment to providing food security to eligible families. District-wise and month-wise data have also been enclosed to maintain accountability and public access to information.
