Hyderabad: Telangana achieved a milestone on Thursday after administering four crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines. According to the state health department, 94% of the population have received the first dose of the vaccine while 50% have been administered the second dose.

Health minister Harish Rao tweeted, "Telangana has successfully administered over 4 Cr #CovidVaccine doses so far. Thanking every citizen of #Telangana who have taken a step towards defeating #COVID19. It is my humble appeal to every citizen to stay safe & get themselves & their loved ones vaccinated at the earliest."

Chief secretary Somesh Kumar also tweeted, "Telangana State today crossed another milestone in #CovidVaccination drive by administering a total of 4 crore shots. Of the total shots, 94 percent of eligible citizens got the first dose and 50 percent of the citizens are covered with the second dose."

After the vaccination drive was launched in the country on 16 January, Telangana administered one crore doses on 15 June and in the next three months, it administered three crore doses. The health department has estimated that 2.77 crore people above 18 years are yet to be vaccinated.

Rangareddy tops list of highest first dose

Rangareddy district has administered the highest first dose of the vaccine covering 107% of the population (including people from other districts) while Hyderabad and Karimnagar have the highest fully-vaccinated population with 75% each.

Komaram Bheem Asifabad has the lowest vaccinated population with only 16% of the population fully vaccinated.

State health authorities are preparing a special action plan to achieve 100% vaccination in the state by December end. The Cabinet sub-committee formed earlier to tackle the situation in view of the new variant Omicron and to expedite vaccination has directed the district collectors to prepare the plans in their respective districts to cover all eligible persons by the month-end.

The four-member panel headed by the health minister has asked the departments of medical and health, municipal administration, education, and panchayat raj to coordinate with each other to achieve the goal.
