Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced a compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre to the farmers who lost their crops due to the flooding in the Akeru River.

CM Revanth Reddy along with other ministers visited Mahabubabad to assess the damage in the district due to the flooding of rivers and chaired a review meeting. There has been severe damage to homes, roads and bridges in the area as the flood waters from the river spread across.

CM meets Dr Ashwini’s brother

CM Revanth Reddy along with the other leaders met the mother and brother of deceased scientist Dr Nunawat Ashwini. CM Reddy has promised a job for Dr Ashwini's brother and a home for the family in the Indiramma scheme.

The body of Dr Ashwini was found after the flood waters were reduced. Dr Ashwini along with her father Nunawat Motilal was travelling to Hyderabad to board a flight. Their car was swept away in the flood waters.

Reddy said, “The overflowing Akeru has led to the suffering of people in three villages and have asked the district officials to look at the Indiramma housing scheme and accommodate them. There should be one housing colony for all of them so that they can be spared the fury of the flood waters.”

Bridge to be rebuilt

The bridge on Akeru needs to be rebuilt as it has collapsed. A proper assessment of water levels and the ability of the bridge to withstand the force of water must be taken into account while building the new bridge, said CM Revanth Reddy.

The bridge is the lifeline for three villages and the main travel connection.

Total damage

The Telangana State government has so far assessed the total damage in the State to an approximately Rs 5,438 crores. A detailed report will be prepared and sent to the Union government. CM Revanth Reddy has asked prime minister Narendra Modi to declare the floods as a national calamity.
