Telangana government increases life tax on vehicles: Check out new slab

Hyderabad: Telangana government has increased the life tax on different categories of motor vehicles.

The department has announced increasing life tax on motor vehicles in the third, sixth, and seventh schedules of the Telangana Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1963 with effect from May 9, 2022.

Accordingly, a life tax of nine percent of the cost of the motorcycles, including tricycles and motor scooters, will forthwith be levied on vehicles whose cost does not exceed Rs 50,000 at the time of registration and it would be 12 percent in case of vehicles costing more than Rs 50,000.

For the three or four-wheeled motor vehicles, including motor cars and jeeps coming under the non-transport category, omnibuses up to a seating capacity of 10 persons in all, and new motor cabs and those from other States that are entering into rolls of the State by the way of change of address or transfer of ownership, life tax has been enhanced to 13 percent on vehicle cost below Rs 5 lakh, 14 percent for above Rs 5 lakh, 17 percent for above Rs 10 lakh and 18 percent for above Rs 20 lakh at the time of new time registration.

For non-transport vehicles meant for carrying persons owned by companies/ institutions/ societies/organizations up to a seating capacity of 10 in all and second or more personalized vehicles up to a seating capacity of 10 owned by an individual, life tax is enhanced to 15 percent of vehicles which are priced below Rs 5 lakh, 16 percent for those above Rs 5 lakh, 19 percent for the ones above Rs 10 lakh and 20 percent for those above Rs 20 lakh at the time of registration.
