Telangana govt to launch Bhu Bharati Act, portal for land security on April 14
Hyderabad: To ensure land security for all citizens, the government is introducing the Bhu Bharati Act and the Bhu Bharathi Portal, stated Minister for Revenue, Housing, and Information and Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.
Replacement for Dharani
Speaking to the media at his chamber in the Secretariat on Sunday, he announced that on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkarās 134th birth anniversary, chief minister A Revanth Reddy will dedicate the Bhu Bharati Act and the portal to the people.
He emphasised that the responsibility of protecting farmersā lands lies with the current government. The minister expressed his pride in being a part of bringing in the widely accepted Bhu Bharati Act as the revenue minister, fulfilling that public trust and replacing Dharani with a transparent system.
Statewide implementation on June 2
Initially, the Bhu Bharati Act will be implemented on a pilot basis in three mandals across three districts. Based on the results, full-scale implementation across the state will be completed by June 2.
He reiterated that the Bhu Bharati Act will serve as a referendum, as previously declared in the Legislative Assembly. The act aims to provide assurance and security over land rights to the people of the state, especially farmers.
āDo not all log in to the portal at onceā
The minister requested landowners not to visit the portal all at once to check their land records, as it may lead to a system crash. He added that if anyone deliberately attempts to jam the portal, the chief minister has already instructed police officials to take appropriate action.
The portal is being developed under the supervision of the Central Governmentās NIC, incorporating modern features to ensure seamless functionality, especially for registrations.
Village Revenue Officers will be deployed from the first week of next month, and the related processes have already begun. He noted that, unlike during the Dharani rollout, when registrations were halted for nearly four months, the current portal is being upgraded gradually to avoid such issues.
Decentralising authority and decreasing complexity
The minister said he would personally visit the pilot villages where Bhu Bharathi is being implemented. Other ministers will also tour these areas, and awareness meetings will be conducted under the supervision of district collectors.
Ponguleti mentioned that Bhu Bharathi decentralises authority across five levelsāfrom the MRO to the CCLāfor quicker resolution of land issues. Tribunals will be established based on the volume of complaints from the public and may be reduced over time if grievances decrease.
He also informed that the number of modules in the new portal has been reduced from 33 (in Dharani) to just 6, making the system more user-friendly for all.
