Hyderabad: On Friday, the Telangana High Court Chief Justice and Patron-in-Chief of Telangana State Legal Services Authority Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice P Naveen Rao, Executive Chairman of Telangana State Legal Services Authority, virtually inaugurated the offices of Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS) from the Central Hall, High Court, in remaining 17 districts of Telangana State, in the second and final phase. With Fridayās inauguration, all the districts in Telangana now have LADCS offices.
Speaking on the occasion, CJ Ujjal Bhuyan stated that the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, was enacted by the Parliament after several judgments were passed by the Supreme Court and also as per the mandate of the Constitution to provide free legal aid to marginalised sections of the society.
CJ Ujjal Bhuyan further stated that the majority of prisoners are undertrial prisoners, who belong to marginalised and weaker sections of society. The new system of LADCS will help the needy, poor and distressed to have access to justice in a more effective manner, he said.
The Chief Justice said the offices of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System may also take up matters of the prisoners who are eligible for parole.
