Telangana HC dismisses BSP candidate’s petition seeking enhanced security cover

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Wednesday refused to issue a direction to the DGP and the Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda to provide 4+4 gunmen to Sunkara Naresh, a BSP candidate from 47 Uppal assembly segment.

The Government Pleader for Home informed the Court that the petitioner has already been provided with 1+1 gunmen security. He said there is a committee, which examines the threat perception and makes a decision on providing security.

Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy after hearing the contention observed that the police don't need to provide 4+4 security gunmen to the petitioner. He directed CP Rachakonda to continue the 1+1 security cover to the petitioner.

The Court was hearing the petition filed by Sunkara Naresh, who is contesting election on a Bahujan Samaj party ticket from Uppal Assembly constituency. He sought directions to the Election Commission, State Election Commission, Director General of Police, Telangana, and the Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda to provide him 4+4 security cover to enable him to canvass during elections.
