Telangana: Killer roads claim 6690 lives in 2022; Rs 612 Cr fine imposed for traffic violations

Over 6690 people died and 18316 others were injured in 19248 road accidents in Telangana in 2022.

A compounding fee of Rs 612 Crores has been imposed and 165, 84,388 cases have been booked for violating various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The number of cases registered this year has reduced by nearly 34%.

Telangana State has (29) National Highways with a length of 4714 Km. Of which, 2418 km are maintained by NHAI and 2422 Km by PWD. Telangana government also maintains State Highways with a length of 2,712 Km and 23011 Km of Major District Roads and other roads.

Hyderabad:

In Hyderabad Commissionerate, 2209 accidents took place. Of these, 289 were fatal. In 92 cases, people received serious injuries and in 1567 cases, people received minor injuries.

Over the year, the Hyderabad Traffic Police launched multiple special drives including Operation ROPE.

174869 cases have been booked against stopline violations, 27217 cases booked for blocking a free left, and 177 encroachment FIRs have been booked.

Additionally, the number of drunken driving cases has also spiked by 45%. 29398 cases were booked in 2021 and 42634 cases in 2022.

The number of chargesheets filed for drunken driving cases has increased. In 2022, 53345 chargesheets were filed in drunken driving cases against 11562 in 2021.

Cyberabad:

Cyberabad Commissionerate recorded 3288 accidents in 2022.

A 0.7% decrease in Fatal Road Accidents has been observed as per the annual data. Non-fatal road accidents have decreased by 18% and non-injury road accidents have decreased by nearly 39%.

Rachakonda:

Rachakonda Commissionerate saw a 19% increase in road accidents in 2022. A marginal rise of 0.16% was observed in fatal accidents, while non-fatal accidents saw a higher rise (25.14%).

The number of deaths due to accidents decreased by 0.91% as per the annual report's data.
