Hyderabad: The government of Telangana on Wednesday issued orders relaxing the upper age limit for uniform services in the state by three years for a period of two years. The upper age limit for police, Excise, fire, the special police force (SPF), transport, and forest departments has been raised by three years.

"The government, after careful consideration, has further decided to raise the upper age limit by three years for ensuring direct recruitments in various categories of posts in respect of uniform services to be notified by recruiting agencies in the state," read the order.

The government also issued an ad-hoc rule for the same, raising the maximum age limit by three years.

This is going to bring some respite to lakhs of aspirants also because the recruitment notification is coming after 11 years.

For four of the uniform services – deputy superintendent of police (civil), deputy superintendent of jails, divisional forest officer, and assistant Prohibition and Excise superintendent – the upper age limit for applicants from the general category was between 26-28 years. Many aspirants had crossed the age limit and become ineligible to apply.

Meanwhile, on 19 March, the government issued an order raising the upper age limit by 10 years – from 34 to 44 years – for all non-uniform posts for a period of two years.
