Telangana reports 1,520 new COVID19 cases, GHMC area adds 979 cases

Hyderabad: In another major spike, Telangana added 1,520 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the cumulative caseload to 6,85,543. On Tuesday, the state had reported only 1520 cases. The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 6,168. One more COVID-19 death was reported in the last 24 hours in Telangana.

Among the districts, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was the main contributor of the infection by registering a maximum of 979 new cases during the last 24 hours, followed by Rangareddy (174), Medchal-Malkajgiri (132), and Sangareddy (26). The day's remaining coronavirus cases have been registered by other districts.

A total of 209 people have recovered from coronavirus statewide in a span of 24 hours taking the overall recoveries thus far to 6,75,341 constituting a recovery rate of 98.51 percent.

As many as 42,531 samples were tested in the state during the past 24 hours out of which the results of 7,039 swab samples are awaited. Cumulatively, 2,98,83,141 COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

No omicron cases has been reported in the state on January 5. Till now the state has reported 94 cases of Omicron.
