Telangana reports first two cases of Omicron: Kenyan, Somalian travellers tests +ve
A 24-yr-old Kenyan woman national and another Somalian national have tested positive for Omicron variant. These are the first two cases of Omicron in Telangana.

These are the first two cases of Omicron in Telangana.
Both were from "non-risk" countries. The Kenyan is from Tolichowki and has been traced and shifted to TIMS, Gachibowli. Kenyan woman's father and uncle have also tested positive for Covid-19 and have been isolated.
The Somalian too is from the Mehdipatnam area search is on to trace his location.
Dr. Srinivas Rao, director of Telangana public health said that the two passengers arrived in Hyderabad on December 12. "Their samples were collected on December 12 at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and sent to genome sequencing. The results were out on Tuesday night," Srinivas Rao said. There has been no local transmission of variant till now, added DPH.
They have been tested positive last night for Omicron. Both are from non-risk countries. These two passengers were part of random five percent samples at Hyderabad Airport that tested positive for a new variant.
The third case is of a 7-year-old kid who came to Hyderabad and immediately took a domestic flight from Hyderabad to West Bengal. He didn't cross the RGIA premises. He immediately boarded a domestic flight after landing in Hyderabad. West Bengal Government has been informed.
Telangana Health Department has tested around 5,396 passengers at RGIA Airport. Of which 18 have tested positive for Covid19. Three tested positive for the Omicron variant.
Update: The Director of Public Health said that the missing Somalian with Omicron positive has been tracked and shifted to TIMS Gachibowli. "We are in the process of identifying contact for further testing. All the foreign nationals residing in that area will be screened for Covid now," said G Srinivasa Rao.
