Hyderabad: Severe cold wave gripped Telangana on Saturday night as the minimum temperatures in some districts fell below 10°Celsius.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the state's lowest minimum temperature of 7.3°Celsius was recorded in Sirpur in Komaram Bheem in the last 24 hours.




Satwar in Sangareddy recorded 7.3°C and Ramalakshmanpalle in Kamareddy recorded 7.6°C. Other places that recorded temperatures below 10°C are Nyalkal in Sangareddy (8.1°C), Marpalle in Vikarabad (8.2°C), Neradigonda in Adilabad (8.3), Kotgiri in Nizamabad (8.3), Bela in Adilabad (8.3), Mogdampalle in Sangareddy (8.3) and Malchelma in Sangareddy (8.4).

In Hyderabad, the lowest minimum temperature of 12.4°Celsius was recorded in West Marredpally.

Weather forecast for days ahead

According to IMD's five-day weather forecast, on 20 and 21 November, the minimum temperatures are likely to fall below normal by 2-4°Celsius at isolated pockets in northern districts of Telangana. On 22 November, IMD hinted at the possibility of light to moderate showers in southern districts of the state.




T. Balaji, the "Telangana Weatherman," on 19 November tweeted that there would be some respite from 21 to 23 November and that there could be a long cold wave spell again from 23 November. "What a winter season we are having so far. Started with a bang on October 21 and till now, great cold weather Even now we are in strong cold weather, though some respite during Nov 21-23, again STRONG COLDWAVE after Nov 24 which will be a prolonged spell of at least 10 days," he tweeted.

He added that this winter season is going to give tough competition to the winters of 2018-19, which saw the strongest winters in the last 10 years.
