Telangana unveils Rs 60,799 crore mega infrastructure plan with airports, ropeways, highways

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is set to significantly upgrade the state’s transport and logistics infrastructure with the introduction of new airports, ropeways, expressways and elevated corridors, as part of its long-term Telangana Rising-2047 development vision.

Cargo services from Warangal airport next year

The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, in its two-year progress report, revealed that the process to operationalise airports at Warangal, Adilabad and Ramagundam has already begun, while cargo services from Warangal Airport are expected to be launched next year, giving a major boost to regional trade and exports.

Ropeways planned at major pilgrimage and heritage sites

To strengthen tourism and improve access to hilly and heritage destinations, the State government has begun preparations for ropeway projects at key locations, including Yadagirigutta, Hanuman Hill at Nalgonda, Nagarjuna Sagar, and Ramgiri Fort at Manthani. These projects are expected to attract more tourists while ensuring safer and faster access to difficult terrains.

Rs 60,799 crore mega infrastructure plan under Telangana Rising-2047

In line with the Telangana Rising–2047 mission, the government has announced mega infrastructure projects worth Rs 60,799 crore to accelerate economic growth and modernise public infrastructure across the state. Special focus is being laid on the construction of “mirror-smooth” world-class roads to ensure long-term durability and enhanced travel comfort.

419 roads to be developed under HAM Model

As part of this initiative, 419 roads will be developed for Rs 11,399 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) across 32 packages. This large-scale programme is aimed at strengthening rural and urban road connectivity while reducing maintenance burden on the government.

Major national highway and corridor projects

Several high-impact highway and corridor projects are also in the pipeline on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway works worth Rs 288 crore have been approved to rectify accident-prone black spots.

Preparations are underway for a six-lane expansion project at an estimated cost of Rs 10,400 crore, with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) under preparation. The much-awaited Regional Ring Road (RRR) project is estimated to cost Rs 36,000 crore.

Hyderabad–Amaravati and Hyderabad–Srisailam corridors

For strengthening inter-state and religious connectivity, tenders have been invited for the selection of a consultant to prepare the DPR for the Hyderabad–Amaravati–Machilipatnam road alignment. A new elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam, as part of the Hyderabad–Srisailam project, will be taken up for Rs 8,000 crore.

Rs 6,617 crore works cleared after Congress took charge

Since the Congress government came to power, approvals have been granted for 239 infrastructure works valued at Rs 6,617.86 crore. These include the construction and upgrading of 1,659 kilometres of roads and the building of 62 new bridges across the state.

Indian Road Congress meet to boost investments

The state government expects the Indian Road Congress (IRC) conference, scheduled to be held in Telangana next year, to attract large-scale investments in road and transport infrastructure, further accelerating development.

Large-scale promotions in R&B Department

In a major administrative initiative, the R&B Department carried out mass promotions after nearly a decade. In a single day, 118 Assistant Engineers (AEs) were promoted as Deputy Engineers (DEs), and 64 Deputy Engineers (DEs) were promoted as Executive Engineers (EEs).

Public buildings worth Rs 7,000 crore near completion

The government has also undertaken massive construction activity in public infrastructure over the past two years. Buildings covering more than one crore square feet have been constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 7,000 crore, the highest in the last ten years.

Key projects to be made operational next year include the High Court building complex, government hospitals and medical colleges.
