Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court Bench comprising Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy on Friday heard the writ petition filed by Revanth Reddy, president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) and Malkajgiri MP, seeking a direction to the BRS government to provide additional security in view of the yatra undertaken by him.
M. Roopender, GP for Home, furnished a copy of the fax message dated 15 February 2023 sent by the additional director general of police, Intelligence department, addressed to all the CPs, superintendent of police, all RIOs, range DIGs, IGPs informing them about the Revanth Reddyās yatra. The yatra commenced on 6 February from Mulugu district and will continue till the ensuing general elections 2023.
All unit officers were directed to provide adequate security to Revanth Reddy during the yatra which converges into their jurisdictional area, based on local situations.
After observing the fax message, Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy opined that āas the petitioner is provided with security, there is no need to hear the writ petition anymore, as the matter becomes infructuous.ā
Further, Justice Vijaysen Reddy asked T. Rajnikanth Reddy, counsel for the petitioner Revanth Reddy, to inform the court on 6 March as to whether adequate security is provided to the petitioner.
Revanth Reddy approached the High Court seeking a direction to the BRS government to provide additional security, apart from the existing security, as he apprehends a threat from BRS leaders as he had canvassed against the anti-people policies of the BRS government.
For further hearing, the matter was adjourned to 6 March.
