Dr. G. Srinivas, the general secretary of HRDA, said the government should immediately release election notification as per the High Court order directing TSMC to conduct elections.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 27 Jan 2023 3:30 AM GMTHyderabad: Telangana Doctors’ Federation (TDF) has threatened to protest if the state government does not hold elections to the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC). It said the elections have not been conducted for the last 12 years.
During its recent online meeting, the Federation discussed TSMC elections, the strengthening of the public health sector in Telangana, and the abolition of quackery. Representatives from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), TDF, Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), and Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) attended the meeting. Representations will be given to all officials concerned in the state this week and if the government doesn’t respond, the medicos will gather in Hyderabad in the first week of February.
Dr. K. Anvesh, the president of TDF, said if the government doesn’t conduct elections at the stipulated time, all medical organisations are going to hold a Vydhya Garjana at Hyderabad with undergraduate and post-graduate students of all medical colleges and practicing doctors.
Dr. G. Srinivas, the general secretary of HRDA, said the government should immediately release election notification as per the High Court order directing TSMC to conduct elections.
Doctors call for abolition of ‘quackery’
Meanwhile, HRDA president Dr. Mahesh Kumar said quackery has become rampant like country-made alcohol and is endangering the lives of the people of Telangana. It should be abolished immediately, he said.
Dr. B.N Rao, the president of IMA, said practising doctors should not encourage quacks. “This is the root cause of quackery. By regulating ourselves (doctors) and not giving incentives to quacks, we can save the profession,” he said. Unfortunately, quackery associations have money and huge support from politicians.
TJUDA leaders Dr. Kaushik, Dr. Rahul, and Dr. Karshini said they will mobilise every medical student in Telangana for the betterment of the state’s public health sector. Dr. P.S Vijayender, convenor of TDF, said permanent recruitment (both in teaching and non-teaching hospitals) should be done as per the increased number of medical seats and said the number of hospitals must be increased as per the population ratio as directed by the Indian public health standards.
