TS HC asks state DGP to examine & take decision on KA Pauls security

Hyderabad: A Telangana High Court Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji on Thursday directed the state DGP to assess the threat to K.A. Paul and take appropriate decision on restoring his personal security, preferably in 30 days.

The Bench disposed of the suo motu PIL based on the letter addressed by Mr. Paul seeking directions to the DGP to restore his personal police security.

K.A. Paul is the leader of the Praja Shanti Party and a noted evangelist.

Mr. Paul, as party-in-person, submitted before the court by diverting his plea to the inauguration of the new Secretariat building which is set to be inaugurated on Chief Minister KCR’s birthday on 17 February. It should be inaugurated on 14 April, on the birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar since the building is named after him, he said.

He submitted that recently, a fire accident took place in the new Secretariat Building. The media reported the location of the accident differently, some said the fire broke out on the ground floor and others said the first floor, 2nd floor, 5th floor, and 6th floor. He said the manner of the accident raises many suspicions. Even after a week of the fire, no FIR has been registered, he submitted.

He further alleged that it is not a fire accident but a “homum.” He added, “We don’t know how many died in that incident.”

Mr. Paul further submitted that the CM demolished the old Secretariat building by wasting Rs. 500 crores of public money in the name of “Vastu” and Rs. 660 crores of public money are being misused for the construction of the new building. He argued that a CBI inquiry should be ordered on the Secretariat fire incident.

Samala Ravinder, GP for fire safety and prisons department, and Roopender, GP, Home, objected to the irrelevant submissions made by Mr. Paul.

The court, in its order, observed that it is not inclined to enter into the issue of the Secretariat inauguration which is not before the court. The CJ Bench directed the DGP to examine the threat to KA Paul within 30 days and take a decision on his security.

By giving the direction to TS DGP, the petition was dismissed by the High Court.
