TS reported 728 cases relating to NRI marriages
Telangana registered 728 cases relating to NRI marriages. Of them, 678 cases were registered in rural police stations.

Speaking at a conference organized jointly by the National Commission of Women (NCW) and the women's safety division of the Telangana police, Swathi Lakara, the additional DGP (women safety), said so far 728 cases related to NRI marriages were registered in Telangana. She said 239 cases were registered in the women's security department since 2019. Of them, 42 cases have been resolved while the others are at various levels.
Ms. Lakara explained that the majority of the cases were in the US, Australia, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and Canada. She said when a case related to NRI marriages is registered, an officer is assigned specifically for the case and steps taken to resolve it in coordination with various agencies and foreign embassies.
DIG Sumathi said 18 women police stations are working exclusively to address various issues related to women in the state. "We are working in coordination with the National Women's Commission, the National Commission for Women, the ministry of external affairs, and the Home ministry to resolve complaints against these expatriate Indians," she said.
Telangana Women's Commission chairperson Sunita Laksha Reddy said the state women's commission had received 15 complaints relating to NRI marriages. She said the women's security division of the police department in coordination with the Legal Services Authority and other agencies had taken steps to address these complaints.
Meanwhile, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma expressed concern over the high number of NRI marriage-related cases in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. She said 5,858 cases were registered in connection with NRI marriages in India.
She added that many agencies from different countries are facing a lot of difficulties when they are coordinating with agencies in our country to resolve these cases. She added that to curb such domestic crimes, there is a need to motivate women, especially young women who are ready for marriage.
