TSRTC to appoint over 2,000 village bus officers to make its services more accessible
The officers’ primary responsibility will be to maintain a friendly relationship with the local community.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 22 April 2023 11:19 AM GMTHyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) launched an innovative programme to appoint bus officers in villages across the state, aiming to attract more people towards public transportation.
With TSRTC MD V.C. Sajjanar issuing guidelines for the appointment of village bus officers and their duties, the programme is set to come into effect from 1 May. The move is expected to make public transportation more accessible and convenient for the people of Telangana and provide greater assistance to passengers and encourage them to use TSRTC’s services.
Village bus officer programme
According to the guidelines, the officers’ primary responsibility will be to maintain a friendly relationship with the local community. They will be appointed based on the size of the villages, with one officer for larger villages and one officer for two or three smaller villages. Each bus officer will be responsible for a maximum of five villages.
The village bus officers will meet with villagers every 15 days to collect information about bus schedules, new routes, services, issues, and other related matters. They will also collect details about weddings, festivals, and other significant events in the villages and make arrangements for additional bus trips as needed. Additionally, they will encourage people to use public transportation instead of private vehicles and offer their rented buses for weddings and other auspicious occasions.
Contacting village bus officers
The village bus officers will be in touch with various individuals such as village representatives, community leaders, members of the Dwakra group, and puncture hall managers. They will provide their contact numbers to these individuals. The details of the assigned officers will be displayed on the notice board of each gram panchayat office, and each village sarpanch will receive a letter with the officer’s details for their respective villages.
Recognition and encouragement
To foster better relationships between the public and TSRTC, the company plans to appoint over 2,000 village bus officers. These officers will be recognised and encouraged for their exemplary performance by receiving the Best Village Bus Officer Award every three months.
TSRTC chairman and MLA Bajireddy Govardhan and MD V.C. Sajjanar urged people to support and use the village bus officer programme to improve the public transportation system.
