Hyderabad: One-Moto, the first British premium electric vehicles (EVs) brand in India, on Monday announced that it is setting up its manufacturing unit in Telangana with an investment of Rs. 250 crore.

An MoU was signed between the company and the Telangana government to set up the company's first manufacturing unit in India. The unit will likely come up near Zaheerabad or at Chengicherla, said Sameer Moidin, co-founder and partner of One-Moto on the sideline of the launch of electric motorcycles. New electric vehicles in three different capacities were launched by Telangana principal secretary (IT and industries) Jayesh Ranjan.

"Currently, we are assembling vehicles in Hyderabad by importing parts from the UK," Sameer said adding that once it starts its operations from the proposed plant in Telangana, the company would manage all the production in India to cater to the growing market.

He added, "Hyderabad seems to be the key market for EVs with the state government accelerating the EV revolution with policies for EV production and strong infrastructure. We aim to manufacture at least 40,000 units in the first phase of the plant launch. The capacity will easily be taken up to 100,000 in two years."

The new manufacturing plant, which is spread across 15 acres, will have major automation integration with additional semi- robotics and the latest manufacturing machinery to produce cutting-edge products, he said.

Speaking at the launch, One-Moto India CEO Shubhankar Chaudhry said the plant will create almost 500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs in the state. Initially, the company will produce two-wheelers at the new plant and later, it will make four-wheelers.

One-Moto recently launched its new e-scooter Electa at the EV India expo in Greater Noida. After the brand launched in India in November 2021, it has already brought out three e-scooters for Indian customers ā€“ Byka, Electa, and Commuta. All the e-scooters are high-speed premium products flaunting scintillating style, and high-end quality, Mr. Chaudhry.

The manufacturing plant will produce all One-Moto fleet in addition to two Indian fleets that are to be introduced by Ellysium Automotives, currently promoting One-Moto in India. "The launch of this high-tech plant reinstates our ambition to 'Make in India' for India," Mr. Chaudhry said.
