YS Sharmilas padayatra to continue, says High Court

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday granted permission to Y.S Sharmila of YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) to continue her padayatra in the state.

There was high drama at her residence as police vehicles blocked the road leading out of her residence. Sharmila wanted to approach the Telangana High Court but was not allowed. After much discussion, the police allowed her and she filed a lunch motion petition. The petition stated that the state government stopped her padayatra inadvertently, and she sought permission from the court to go ahead with the padayatra.

A High Court Single Bench headed by Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy heard the lunch motion plea. Justice Bollam commented, "Why are all the politicians coming to the court nowadays seeking permission for padayatras?" He asked why she was making objectionable comments during her padayatra.

Counsel for Sharmila informed the court that the police lifted her vehicle without any reason, and in a fit of rage, she lost her control.

Further, Justice Bollam opined that if politicians cannot condemn each other, how do the people know what is happening in society? Politicians are only on the roads, if they exceed the limits, the court has to stop them, Justice Bollam averred.

He directed the police to permit Sharmila to go through with the padayatra for which the court has given orders on 29 November. Further, he directed the petitioner's counsel that she must not make any derogatory remarks against the government and other politicians.
