Oxygen disruption claims 11 lives at Tirupati's Ruia hospital

While hospital authorities claim that that the supply was disrupted only for five minutes, the families alleged there was no oxygen for 45 minutes. Videos of patients dying and families crying helplessly have shaken Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister's office confirmed that 11 people have died due to alleged inadequate oxygen supply at SVR RUIA Government General Hospital in Tirupati on Monday. According to reports, oxygen pressure began dipping at around 7.30 pm on Monday. An oxygen tanker that was supposed to reach the hospital by afternoon arrived in the evening.
By the time oxygen supply was restored, as many as 10 Covid-19 positive patients had breathed their last. According to reports, six of the deceased were undergoing treatment in Ward No 1, 2, and 3, while four died in the ICU.

As news of deaths spread, relatives of the deceased ran amok and vandalized the furniture in the hospital. Some protested in front of the hospital. Sensing danger, doctors and nurses fled from the hospital. Police rushed to the hospital and tried to calm down the protesters. Meanwhile, efforts to contact the hospital superintendent failed.
