ACB apprehends top irrigation officer accepting Rs 1.5 lakh bribe in Guntur

Vijayawada: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested senior-ranking irrigation officer for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh on Tuesday. The accused officer was identified as Rayana Srinivasa Rao, deputy executive engineer of river conservancy sub-division.

Guntur range ACB received a complaint from Bhattu Vijaya Sagar that Srinivasa Rao was allegedly demanding Rs 1.5 lakh bribe for issuing permission for de-casting of sand in the land taken on lease at Gajjulalanka village of Kolluru Mandal in Guntur district.

ACB officials said that Rao demanded the bribe for forwarding the clearance letter to the executive engineer of Krishna Central Division. Later it would reach the assistant director of mines and geology in Guntur.

Apparently disappointed with the corrupt practices of Rao, the complainant approached ACB. Officials laid a trap and caught the tainted officer red-handed.

Officials said that soon after the transaction was done, they barged in and conducted the phenolphthalein test.

Officials said that they have arrested Rao and a case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA). He is being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Vijayawada.
