Visakhapatnam: A 14-year-old tribal girl's body was found hanging from a tree under suspicious circumstances near Jajulapalem under Cheedikada police station limits in the Vizag district.
The minor girl, a resident of Cheedikada mandal, was allegedly having an affair with a 16-year-old- boy who is her relative, the police said. The teen lovers had been meeting near Jajulapalem once a week for the past few months.
On the morning of 1 July, the couple reportedly met at their usual place. This time the boy was accompanied by his friend. The couple was together till evening following which the boy and his friend returned to their homes.
However, the girl did not return home prompting her parents and relatives to start a search. The next day, the boy found the girl hanging from a tree at the place they used to meet. He immediately alerted the girl's relatives and friends.
Chodavaram police inspector Syed Eliyas Mohammed visited the spot with his team and said it was too early to confirm the reason for her death. However, after questioning the boy and his friend, they believe the girl died by suicide. A case under Section 174 of CrPC (suspicious death) has been registered and an investigation is underway, the inspector said. But the girl's family has expressed doubts over her death and demanded the police look into multiple angles.
