82 tonnes of dry ganja worth Rs 20 Cr destroyed in Vizag
By Newsmeter Network Published on 10 Dec 2020 4:30 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: Vizag Rural Police destroyed over 82,400 kilograms (82 tonnes) of dry ganja seized in the presence of the Drug Disposal committee at Balighattam dumping yard in Narsipatnam of Vizag district.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Visakha Range, LKV Ranga Rao said the ganja was seized in over 657 cases under 41 police station limits in the district. It was for the first time that a huge quantity of dry ganja was destroyed in a single day.
He said that over 1,26,350 kilograms of seized ganja were destroyed in the past three years in Vizag rural limits. "We have been on the job to identify the repeated ganja smugglers. We will invoke the PD Act against them to mitigate the ganja trade in the region. We have invoked the PD Act against 17 ganja smugglers recently and seized the properties of the two smugglers," he said.
Roa noted that police will auction the seized vehicles as per the court directions. In the past two years, over 200 seized vehicles were auctioned for Rs 87 lakh in the district.
